On July 11th in Bydgoszcz, Edyta Cisewska, head of the IPN Delegation in Bydgoszcz, laid flowers at the Wołyń Cross near the church of St. Brothers Martyrs. The parish grounds also feature plaques commemorating the victims of Ukrainian nationalists, prepared by their families.
Subsequently, Director Cisewska participated in the ceremonies marking the 81st anniversary of the Volhynia Massacre in Grudziądz at the monument dedicated to the murdered, organized by the local Society of Lovers of Eastern Borderlands. The ceremonies were opened by a representative of the Society, Zygmunt Krzemień. Edyta Cisewska delivered a commemorative speech, highlighting the circumstances, course, and purpose of the extermination of the Polish population of the Eastern Borderlands.
We would like to remind you that on Sunday, July 14th, the Volhynian Massacre Monument will be unveiled in Domostawa, a town in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. This monument, erected in 2024 near the „Bukowa – towards Rzeszów” rest area on the S19 expressway, will be dedicated and unveiled on July 14, 2024, marking the 81st anniversary of the peak of the mass murders of Poles in Volhynia. The monument was created by Andrzej Pityński. The 14-meter tall monument weighs 14 tons and is shaped like an eagle with its body engulfed in flames. The total height of the monument, including its pedestal, is 20 meters. Inside the monument, there is a cross cutout, within which are trident-shaped pitchforks symbolizing the trident, with a child impaled on them. At the base, on one side (the obverse), there is a family with children engulfed in flames, while on the other side (the reverse), there are the heads of children impaled on fence posts, also engulfed in flames. The names of the villages where the UPA committed massacres are inscribed on the upper part and on the eagle’s wings on both sides.
